WR Michael Spurlock signed, WRs Colbert & Warren released

November 16, 2009

Today the Tuskers announced the signing of WR Michael Spurlock. A multi-position player at Ole Miss, Spurlock most recently saw action this season in the NFL with San Fransisco.

Spurlock is best known to local fans for his ace in Tampa Bay Buccaneers history. Last season, Spurlock became the first player in Buc history to score a touchdown on a a kickoff return, ending a drought of over 30 years for the franchise.

Spurlock’s ability to play multiple positions should help him in the offense. The Tuskers have a similar player in Jayson Foster. Foster is better suited to run the Wildcat offense, but Spurlock’s past as a quarterback at Ole Miss should give the Tuskers another option for the package.

To make room on the roster for Spurlock, the Tuskers released both Paris Warren and Keary Colbert. Both receivers’ production was not as high as expected, so their loss isn’t much of a blow.

The Tuskers play their final game of the season Thursday night on the road. Facing off against the California Redwoods, the Tuskers look to stay healthy and tune up for the Championship Game against Las Vegas on November 27th.
